Re: Tiger I Build #134 (Mark 1 Tank)
Some more pictures of the Tiger with the turret fitted, the side mudguards these came from Mark 1 Tanks,
![]() ![]() ![]() Some points about zimmerit, below the rear mudguards this area was clear of zimmerit as the mudguards covered most of the area, notice the front centre of the glassis in front of the headlamp this has two distinct marks these marks were made by steps placed on the front of the tank at the factory so that people could gain easy access to the tank during manufactory ![]() ![]()

Re: Tiger I Build #134 (Mark 1 Tank)
Warhorse, yes I used milliput for the welds rolled as thin as possible and used 1.5mm and 2mm brass rod to give the effects of a weld run the ticker runs have mulliput runs as the real thing as opposed to just a single run.
The Zimmerit I think this used about 6-8 packs mixing ¼ pack at a time then covering an area then adding the indents this takes time I think the whole tank took 7 days to complete the work, I think I have some pictures of the milliput and tool I will look later

Re: Tiger I Build #134 (Mark 1 Tank)
Zimmerit application was neither neat nor uniformly lines were rarely ever straight no gaps were left between runs and runs overlapped each other, I spent some time studying the patterns done to Tigers which differed from batch to batch so with this is mind and armed with books showing close up pictures of zimmerit, just like the real thing all tool brackets, exhausts, armoured covers etc were all fitted and masking tape applied to protect the relevant parts this is the way the real Tiger had its zimmerit applied, I used milliput rolled between 2 pieces of grease proof paper so it wouldn’t stick this was rolled to about 1.6mm thick this would be scale as the real zimmerit was 10mm thick once this was applied to the hull I then started to insert my home made tool at a 45 degree angle the tool has 2 ends the smallest being 16mm and the largest being 21mm, the smallest is for the hull and mantle front, individual strokes were inserted into the milliput some overlapping more than others some were angled nothing was done straight nor neatly as this would give the best effects, brackets had runs around them some of the strokes were wider apart than others especially by the exhausts, battle damage or chips in the milliput was applied after it had gone hard not when wet as this would give the best appearance.
The zimmerit tool is on the front ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Tiger I Build #134 (Mark 1 Tank)
Another job was the exhausts for some reason I can’t find other pictures so these of the tops will have to do, these are made from alloy with threaded brass bars to extend the exhaust caps, these took some time to build and are as close to scale as I could get them, notice that on the late model exhausts there is no moving plate to close the pipes when it’s not running

Re: Tiger I Build #134 (Mark 1 Tank)
One thing that has had me puzzled for a number of years with 1/6 RC tanks is the lack of any internal detail most have on/off switches or charging sockets below hatches with all the space available I wanted to change this so first on the scratch build list is the Gyro compass this was built using drawings of an original, as usual this was made using plasticard, brass and aluminium
![]() ![]() ![]() Not happy with just a plain Gyro I added an LED to illuminate the dial ![]() ![]()
