Re: Question on "Combat!"
I remember watching combat round about 1976 it was on saturday nights in the UK they should show it again even though I have been in the forces and would see all the mistakes it would still be great. Films like Kelly's heroes are not true to life but still fantastic films.

Re: Question on "Combat!"
RTT's comment on "Rat Patrol".
The Germans in Africa used captured halftracks. Not only were the Germans short on vehicles, but American halftracks were able to maneuver in areas the German halftracks could not go. The SdKfz 250 and 251 series halftracks were not "4" wheel drive. The front axle was not power driven. That said, on "Rat Patrol", the "German halftracks" all had a small sloped front to try to mimic the front of the German halftracks. That was the only concession to "reality", and did not work to us, any viewer that loved military vehicles. They were trying to have us believe we were looking at German haftracks, not captured American vehicles. In those years, German halftracks were always M-47 or M-48 tanks and the "American" vehicles were always either M-47's or M-24 medium and light American tanks. Real vehicles were almost non existent until the 1990's when a ferw British companies began to offer Russian and surplus American tanks imported into the U.S. My first MV was a WC-56 Command Car that was surplussed from the French Army in 1982. Re: Question on "Combat!"
Maybe a week ago there was a Combat squad post in the OSW forum.
I'll try to find it and link it here. Some of these old shows age better than others. Got to love how those .50 cal MG would blow up German tanks in Rat Patrol! My favorite of the old war shows has to be 12 O'Clock High. I had bought a poor quality set and recently got a very nice DVD set. Last edited by egonzinc; 02-12-2012 at 11:04 PM. |

Re: Question on "Combat!"
When I was a kid my Mother used to use "Watching Combat" as a disciplinary action. When I was bad there was no "Combat" for me. I turned out to be a model kid.LOL Here is an ancient pic I did when I got started in 1/6. Kirby, Little John and Saunders.

Re: Question on "Combat!"
Guys,
I sent a PM to Peter and he is willing to do a set of headsculpts for the combat cast. But, in order to determine the cost of a set, he would need to know how many of us are willing to commit to an initial set purchase. So, I am going to ask that anyone who would post here and send Peter-the-Painter a PM letting him know. Then Peter can advise us on the cost to see if we want to proceed with the commitment to purchase - OK with every one? i would like to add, I think we will need to get at least 10 to 12 committed people to make this a reason-able cost for all who do commit - just my opinion; but, we will know better when we get that fare along. Also, we would be committing to the purchase of a "set" of headscults for the whole cast, not individual headsculpts. I am #1, anyone else? Last edited by Jim Fowler; 02-17-2012 at 11:04 AM. |
