Question on "Combat!"
You know, there are a lot of figures/headscuplts devoted to "Band of Brothers". But, did anyone ever do any for the Sixties TV show "Combat!" ? I remember watching that show on Tuesdaynights and was just wondering....
It would be great to have a Sgt Saunders figure in the likeness of Vic Marrow....for me anyway. Anyone else out there remember watching that show when they were a kid? (OK, I'm dating myself; but, have to ask.) ....and, what about Robert Lansing...... Just an idle thaught in the early hours of the morning, Jim |

Re: Question on "Combat!"
I remember watching the tv series Combat way back then when it was a first run not re-runs as a kid. I even had a tommygun made by Mattel that looked just like the one Saunders used. It could fire a whole roll of caps with one cocking of the gun. Just think what it would be worth now if I still had it. There was another show that ran at the same time as Combat called The Gallent Men but it wasn't as good as Combat

Re: Question on "Combat!"
I remember watching the show live. I also remember it was followed by the series 12 o'clock high. They did just come out with the entire Combat series on dvd. I think that there are four volumes. But back to your question on figures. I recall seeing a release that resembled sgt saunders. I also think they did the Lt too. I want to say that they were either dragon or cyber hobby. I think it was around the time they started doing movies, as I remember figures for kelly's heros and cross of iron.

Re: Question on "Combat!"
I loved the show so much I joined the Army and demanded that I be enlisted in the Infantry. I wanted to join Sgt. Saunders and kill Nazi's.... I was open minded, I was willing to kill Japs too.
![]() After growing up seeing every war movie ever made, I was ready, after all Hollywood was just like real life, wasn't it? I forgot that we weren't fighting the Germans or the Japanese in the mid 60's. We hadn't heard of Vietnam then. I was smart enough to realize that every Tiger tank in "Combat" wasn't really a M-47 tank and every German staff car was not really a WC-56 Command Car with German markings, but who cared? As long as by the end of the weekly show, all the Nazi's were dead and none of the squad ever died. TTT

Re: Question on "Combat!"
Cyber-Hobby released figures for both Sgt. Saunders and Lt. Hanley around 2005. They're two of the rarest CH releases, and generally command quite a premium on eBay. They were available as either single figures or in a two-pack, as seen here: http://www.war-toys.com/cyberhobbykingcompany.aspx

Re: Question on "Combat!"
Although I think Combat is corny as hell, I still love the show one of my old favs. My Dad and my uncles that were all W.W.II vets would sit and pick it apart and have some laughs but we always looked forward to watching it. That is why I have the complete 5 seasons on disc and love the show.
Of course I had to have the CH figures and they are pretty good, the heads are decent and look pretty much like who they are supposed to be, better than 90% of what they are pumping out these days. I was lucky to score my figures way below cost several years ago but haven't seen them pop up since. I think a lot of the problem is companies do not want to pay for the licensing so like in the CH case they don't actually use the shows name or references to it. Not sure how legal it is but they did it with a lot of their CH figures like Kelly, Joe, Lee etc. A good example of skirting the law is the DML 1/4ton truck they are borderline trademark infringement by not calling it a Jeep but things like the design and style are still trade marks of Chrysler especially the grill that they use in advertizing. Chrysler was one of the worse when it came to protecting their properties I am surprised they let that one slip by. I know Hasbro had to pay Jeep for licensing when they did their Jeep not sure about SOTW and 21st. Also DiD skirted licensing with the the two Snipers from Enemy at the Gates and two figures we all know from Inglorious Bastards they just didn't use any reference or claim it was from a certain movie. I thought some one of customizers did a set of heads from the Combat series? There are several old TV series I would like to see done like the Rat Patrol, 12 O'Clock high, MASH, Tour of Duty etc. If any major company were to take on the old TV series like Combat, I hope it is DiD because we know we will get the best dead on realistic head sculpts and a lot of gear.

Re: Question on "Combat!"
I pickled up the Hanley and Saunders dual pack. I was fortunate enough to have Boot25 paint the Hanley sculpt for me. I see the individual Saunders figure pop up on E-bay from time to time.
I also comissioned someone online to do a LIttle John headsculpt for me and put it on a taller Sideshow body. I have a Headplay sculpt of Steve Jobs, that when in uniform looks exactly like Kirby. Also there was an old SOTW headsculpt that looked quite a bit like Caje. The one I'd really like to see now is the Conlan Carter (Doc) headsculpt. As there were many others that guest starred on the series, you can use their sculpts too like Telly Savalas, etc. I wish DID or Headplay would do a set of the sculpts.

Re: Question on "Combat!"
If you are a fan of "Peter the Painters" head sculpts he does some nice work and I feel reasonable for the price. I had commissioned him to do a "secret" project for me. The likeness was fabulous, I was very pleased with his work.

Is there enough interest for others to join in? What heads to ask for if there is? Maybe I will PM Peter and ask him to review this thread and post his thoughts on such a venture. Jim PS - The actor Robert Lansing was Savage in the TV show Twelve O'Clock High - I remember that one too! |

Re: Question on "Combat!"
I'd also be interested in obtaining a set of heads. My dad and I would sit together and watch Combat!. I remember the beginning of the first episode. We also use to watch 12 O'Clock High. A few years later Rat Patrol came out. Dad always got a kick out of the show using an American half track for the Germans. Remember him wondering if they were trying to pass it off as being German. He thought they should have stated it was captured and pressed into use. Loose ends.
