With the adoption of the battledress uniform in 1939, the sidecap-style "Field Service Cap" was the typical headgear for most Canadian forces when not wearing the helmet. Later, the khaki Service Beret was adopted by the Canadian Army in 1943, which replaced the Field Service Cap as the standard headgear. (However, sidecaps could still be seen through the end of the war.)

Other colors of berets had been previously adopted for Canadian armored units (black), and Canadian members of some special units wore other colors of berets, including commandos (green), and paratroopers and the SAS (maroon). In addition, Canadian members of the First Special Service Force wore a red beret.

Many officers retained the peaked Service Dress cap, often worn alongside privately tailored uniforms in the style of the pre-war Service Dress.

For units with a Scottish heraldry, including the numerous Canadian Scottish and Highlander regiments, the Glengarry, Balmorral, or Tam-o-Shanter was a popular choice for dress wear.

The Field Service Cap, Service Beret, British Officer caps, the various colored berets, and the Tam-o-shanter are all available from OneSixthUnique. You can order directly from OSU at ONESIXTHUNIQUE Or, his stuff is also offered through www.toysoldierbrigade.com
