Dio-"Hitlerjugend on the Move", Normandy, June 1944

“Hitlerjugend on the Move”
25.SS-Pz Gren Regt
12.SS-PzDiv “Hitlerjugend”
Normandy, June 1944

Some grenadiers move into position in the early days of the Normandy campaign.
In the group there is a 80mm mortar group and a heavy MG34 squad.

In a separate scene an Untersturmfuhrer gets some reconnaisance information from an Oberscharfuhrer of the divisions recon detachment who has just come back from a forward probe in a Schwimm.
The officer later rides through the grebnadier column in a BMW R75 motorcycleto talk to the NCOs in charge at the head of the column.

Light conditions did not cooperate as there were no clouds (where are they when you need them!) in the almost five hours from beginning to end of the “excersise”.
Light conditions changed throughout the morning and I took several similar sets of images. If you care to see more, there are plenty of similar shots with different light and angles and shots of smaller groups and individual images of many of the figures, you can go directly to the Picturetrail album through this link:

Here the images:

Unterstrumfuhrer getting recon report then rides up to the head of the column:

Finally here is a group pic as I took out the figures from the tupperware bins, lined them up to see which would make it to the scene. There are generic grenadiers, walking wounded, the mortar group, the MG34 with tripod group, some medics, sharpshooters and some recon troopers with less feld equipment which I used in the rear of the column as they are there to fill in the rear.

Very nice dio. The plants and trees add to the realism.

I missed this one earlier. Great set up. I can only imagine the time you spent getting ready and not to mention setting up your troops for this one. That new addition looks great and really adds to the shoot!

Very very cool!

Have a good suggestion.

Suggest you use Adobe photoshop and remove the bushy tree branches 'cos the Normandy roads didn't have bushy tree branches and most of the Normandy fields were very open.

Why don't you have your photos changed into B/W which would be very cool.

I saw a brief film clip showing Waffen SS HJ soldiers walking on a busy road in open Normandy field, showed a soldier carrying MG Tripod, ammo belts with Kar-98K rifle, Panzer IV tanks with shields, and motorbikes with sidecar. A dream for WW2 kitbash collectors!

Another great photoshoot, Eduardo. Regarding the natural light, I like it: the colors seem richer, especially the flesh tones, and the shadows make for a more authentic "look" to your photos.
Keep up the good work!

Another get photo shoot. You are enjoying our hobby well. Looks like a lot of work to set it up, but well worth the effort,

Some really awesome figures. I enjoy the formation photo and officer riding in the motorcycle the best. The formation to see who cuts the butter, looks sharp and makes it into the photo shoot. The officer ridding in the motorcycle because he is riding while his troops have to walk, so typical. But over all the whole shoot is fantastic.

Keep having fun and keep sharing those photos with us...........Hammer
