WC-54 Ambulance

Hey All

Am planning on scratch building a WC-54 and was wondering if anybody has scratch built one and may have some templates available for sale or trade.

Also, if one has been built, would like to know the best way to make the rolled roof part. Was gong to try heating a plastic sheet and roll it or use a quarter round and shape it.

Thanks for any help

Re: WC-54 Ambulance

Hi, I also want to make a WC-54 ambulance. I am thinking of making the complicated parts in 3D printing. There are already downloadable 3D model files available, but they are expensive. So I'm looking for a free or not too expensive file.

I don't have any experience with 3-D printing but have wanted to learn. What program and printer do you have? I've checked with online services which are not to bad on small parts but too expensive for large projects. Maybe we can work together and split the costs of some of the files if cheaper ones are not available. What is the source of the files you've found?

Re: WC-54 Ambulance

I am a beginner in 3D printing. I only make small parts, like badges or 1/6 scale weapons. I started with a small wire printer, bought a resin printer in February, and now I just bought a wire printer with a print capacity of 30cm x 30cm x 40cm.

Here are some achievements in resin. Most often, these are 3D files downloaded from the Internet that I modified to be able to print them.

I am using old free software because my computer is old and it is not compatible with current software.

I found several files from the dodge WC54, but the one that looks the prettiest to me is this:

Re: WC-54 Ambulance

If you purchase a file set from cgtrader, do you pick the scale you want thru the file set? Or do you have figure out the numbers/math to get the scale you want. I'm not knowledgeable in the 3D printing stuff. But seems maybe a good thing to get into for parts in 1/6th.

Re: WC-54 Ambulance

Sorry if you don't understand the explanations below, but my English is very poor, so it's hard to explain the technique well.
Usually, Cgtrader files are 1/1 scale.
When you transfer them to 3d software, it is very easy to scale them to 1/6 scale.
But, it gets complicated when some parts are going to be too small or too thin.
For example a rifle frame, if at 1/1 scale it measures 4 mm, at 1/6 scale it will measure 0.66 mm.
Which is very thin and therefore too fragile.
It is then necessary to modify the thickness or the size of the parts.
And this is where it gets a bit complicated for some, because you have to learn to use computer tools.

But I think 3D printing is the future of 1/6 and the model maker.
