Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Hi All,

With the announcement of the new metal model I didn't see the point in continuing with this project and to be honest was hoping to get my hands on one and then do a detail job on it. Two things have made it necessary to rethink my plans. The first is unfortunately it is out of my price range and secondly it does not look like there will be anything left to add with all the detail parts they are bringing out.

As I have a chunk of money invested in moulds and parts already and really want a Dingo there is only one route left............................make my own.................so here we go.

Best regards

Dave

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Hi All,

I've remade a few of the panels more than once but I think I am finally getting to the point I am happy with the overall shape. Progress today has been seriously slowed by the good weather and the need to be sat above Portsmouth enjoying the sun whilst partaking of a seriously good Chilli dog from Micks Monster Burger :-)

Best regards

Dave

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Awesome stuff, Dave!

Hope the build goes well for you!

We've got at least three if not four guys in our club building Dingos. Mike (Point Man) is doing a build blog on it as well:

https://pointmansprivy.weebly.com/daimler-dingo.html

We hope to revisit a Hell's Highway dio at some point when they are all finished.

Again, great job!

Hi All,

Front mudguards coming together. Still a fair bit to do to them but test fitting to make sure they sit properly before I go to far.

Best regards

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Well seems going to be a killer yet again Dave.
Yep , and with a great paint job I bet also.
Was this also used by the Australians?
I think so but memory a little fuzzy on the use of.
Will keep looking in on this.

Cheers

Beautiful! A ghost from the past. Along with Die Werkstatt's M3 Stuart Honey conversion kit, I was on the order list for Sixty's Dingo kit on Sixth Division, I think.

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Hi All,

A little work on the engine cover and supports tonight. Engine cover is just rough cut and glued together. It will be left to dry overnight before I start shaping the outer edges etc tomorrow.

Best regards,

Dave

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Hi All,

More work on the suspension tonight. I am adding some detail to parts and new bits but I want this model to keep as much of Sixty Drivers original Dingo as possible. I've ordered some sample compression springs which hopefully will fit the suspension although this will be a static model.

Best regards

Dave

Are you making all those resin parts??

Love the details! It's all in the details!

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Hi Sgt,

Moulds are currently setting for the wheels and suspension parts. I already have moulds for Sixty's original parts (hatches etc) and there is a possibility if this works out it may be available as a complete kit.

I have simplified the suspension to solid castings mostly to take the weight of the finished piece and there will be a few compromises on parts to make it practical.

My issue at the moment is I want to keep the body as near to the original as possible so I cant have lots of visible location strips or joints that will be easy to assemble. As the side armour is 2mm at 1/6 scale I think it is almost going to be a case of tacking the panels together then adding milliput or similar welds to replicate the original construction.

How do people feel about that? Would people be interested in a more difficult kit to get the inner and outer detail right?

Best regards

Dave

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Hi All,

No actual model making today as Saturdays are normally taken up with casting for orders. That does however mean I have a full set of the primary suspension parts and hubs etc.I can start adding location points and detail to the chassis sides now.

Best regards

Dave

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Hi All,

More work on the chassis rails today. I'm going to mould these so I can assemble the chassis before I make any more detail parts for this area. I will also be making the remaining moulds for the 17 Pdr Pheasant parts so once the new metal pieces arrive I can finish that build.

Best regards

Dave

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Looks amazing Dave, you're work is always so nice and clean!!! In regards to your question, I personally feel, especially on a vehicle such as this, that a lil extra effort to be able to get the inner and outer detail right is well worth it!!!

There's a few guys building Dingo's online at the moment, Pointman and some of the guys from his group in Fla are building 3, and Professor Sakai is building one using a slew of detailed parts he's 3D printing with some pretty cool results.

I was one of those who was on the list for Sixty's Dingo, I would def be interested in building/owning a Dingo in the future and will be keeping an eye out for updates, either kit or parts added to the Armorpax catalog would be awesome to see!!!

Hi All,

First basic chassis cast and assembled. There are a few pieces still to make that will be fitted to the various location holes in the chassis rails.

Re: Bringing Sixty's Dingo back to life

Outstanding work! More Magic!

Seeing these inages and the wonderful looking wheels, took me back to the larger Schwimmwagen wheels that Panzerwerk used to produce. I nce has a set but sold it as I coukd not figure out how to attach the heavy redin castings to the DML model... lazy I guess.
I think that many modellers out there would be buyers of a lighter version of these wheels for their Schwimms. I know I would be interested in six sets!

Dave,

i'm very concern as i watch your fantastic build and achievement. My concern is about the cleanliness of your workbench!

How can you be so busy with making these vehicles and upgrades with such an organized and clean desk?

It's all magic Loic :-)

In reality when I'm cutting and carving there is stuff everywhere. My office is organised with a U shaped work area with cutting mats fitted to all the cupboard tops so you generally get to see the clean bit :-)

Dave
