Dio-"Ghost Division Moving Up", 1940

Dio- “Ghost Division Moving Up”
7.Panzer Division
Belgium, May 1940

Once again elements of the 7.PzDv getting ready for their next assault in the early days of May 1940.
I liked my previous set up a lot, but I must admit, I like these images even better…

Re: Dio-"Ghost Division Moving Up", 1940

Great looking shoot! Rommel looks excellent reviewing his troops. I really like the low angle from the grass.

One question; did the pzkw i actually see action in France?

Re: Dio-"Ghost Division Moving Up", 1940

Very nice Eduardo! Im a fan of the troop movements! Great set and great photos. The shot of rommel between the two vehicles looks cool. Your early war collection is impressive as it is extensive.

Very impressive! Love the setting. How did you create the scenery? Are the trees Bonsai ones or are they planted cuttings?

Cheers,

Additionally, I look at the column of troops and can't even begin to imagine what a column like that 10 miles long would look like.

Re: Dio-"Ghost Division Moving Up", 1940

Thanks guys. As for the yard I started about 8 years ago and once in a while I add some elements, extend a dirt road here, add a hedge there. Everything is planted. Several tricks help the illusion. First I have 2x8 plywood covering the lower concrete base of the cyclone fence in the distance. I try to keep the lower 18"free of leaves. Try to keep the areas in between the saplings as clean as possible. About a year ago I made extensive additions to a simple hedge I had constructed about 10 months before. I planted three large ficus trees and another 5 smaller. Should have gone with all large as the small ones inthe rear, help out in forced perspective but make it harder to look right in shots near that area. Since then a lemon tree who had had a major trauma in 2008 died off completely and I plant various sizes of the small thorny brush here and there. The bush itself is a pain, but the small leaves make it proceless. An unwidely brush on the left is some sort of spice from my wife's spice garden...nice aroma and good for variation! jajaja! The final trick of course is trying to keep as many of the leaves out of the in focus depth of field. The hot summer has killed off some of the bushes, for such a hard to grow plant they sure seem to be somewhat fragile. I had a major attack to the ficus and have been battling almost a year. Some of the areas have thinned out, but I think I'm winning the battle... Always try to keep changing little by little so it does not lok the same over time...nature seems to be taking care of that it seems...

Its a great yard and you have certainly cut out a nice corner for yourself to use with your 1/6. Any future plans for exansion or modification?

Re: Dio-"Ghost Division Moving Up", 1940

Ok Eduardo, how did you manage to get your troops to believe in their commander with such belief in him that they will to follow him to the end of the world. It is all over their faces...HA HA... OK, the headscripts you picked are out of this world and do look like they believe they have the best commander in history. HOMERUN there. I enjoyed the photos and have looked at them many times. Thank you for such a great photoshoot and PLEASE keep them coming as I look forward to your great stuff. SHEP.

Re: Dio-"Ghost Division Moving Up", 1940

Good to see these again! Almost two years... One of my favorite photo shoots. Never thought of 1940 as a focus for a photo shoot, but the early PzII made it happen.
Someday I hope to do a similar set up for 1941... Still need to work a bit before that one can happen...
