Incredible drum corps

My family and I had the great blessing to be able to travel and live in many places...
one of my favorite places, outside of the US, is Scotland, specifically Edinburgh...
I've been considering including the Tattoo in next years trip to Europe and found this on the web.(BTW, if you've never been to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, you're missing an incredible experience!)
I have not heard of these guys...They rival the best I've ever seen or heard!

I have several tape's from the Tattoo that the German pilots gave me when they were here for their F-4 training at George AFB. You need to turn the sound up and turn it up again till every one in the block can hear it. Also several CD's.

GermanBilly1,
are you up there at Victorville?
when I lived in Orange County as a teenager, we used to run up to Lucerne Dry Lake, camp out, and launch model rockets!
I love the CA high desert...I brought my son out there when he was still in High School...the area sure has grown since I was a young teenager!

When the kids get older I would like to take them up to see DCI up in Erie during the summer. Mom and I have talked about going to see these great musicians. Thanks for sharing as I enjoyed watching the clip.

Drum Corps

Yep. Not taking away from the Tattoo fellas, as I have watched many a clip, but DCI is where it is at.

The kids are turning rudimental drumming on its head. The books they play for their shows are nothing to what I played in HS or the couple of years after I came back to help instruct. (Add in the physical moves they do and still be able to execute in flawless unison!) There were 26 rudiments when I first learned to play and there are now upwards of 75-100. Some are so goofy, but they just make sense (to drummers...at any rate).

DCI just moved it's HQ to Indy and the Summer Games are here for the next few years! Best part: The wife likes it too. Now if only WOH or DX would come here, I'd be set!

Youtube has been a wonderful tool for drummers. Something like Tattoo would be fortunate to even get an article in one of the drum mags, let alone someone being able to see them in action.

Love seeing all the rudimentary drummers doing it so effortlessly, just a joy to watch.

Back on topic slightly : the Swiss Corps are astonishing : side-drumming with two sticks was actually invented there back in the late fifteenth century.
But why , oh why , have they chosen such a truly dreadful uniform ?

Re: Incredible drum corps

When I was a teenager I was taken to a Royal Tattoo in MSG. Just a mind blowing show. As I remember besides the drummers and the pipers, part of the show included mounted lancers. I've never forgotten the thrill of that show.

I'll not say how long ago this was, but the British actor, Michael Renee, was sitting in front of me (without Klatu) and was introduced to the crowd. He was one of my favorite actors since TDTESS with Klatu kicking butt.....

Re: Incredible drum corps

Amazing. I had seen one very similar with Basel flags. Both have very similar odd looking uniforms.
