'Achtung Jabo!!! - IF8 Infanterie Karren AA Mount

http://www.pbase.com/stevem88

Follow the above link for pics of the following -

The IF8 Infanterie Karren (basically Infantry Cart), came about during 1941 when it was identified, during the early-war campaigns, that infantry platoons were unable to carry the loads required for marches of long duration. The cart itself is ingenious in that it was designed to be pulled by a variety of means simply by uncoupling the front shaft to suit what/who was pulling it - a T-Bar for the foot-slogging soldaten, a harness for horse-towing and a coupler that could be fitted to the towbar of a light vehicle.

Additionally, a towbar fitting to the rear of the cart allowed for the attachment of another cart so that a 'string' of carts could be towed if so desired. Each cart had the carrying weight capacity of 350kg. Wheels were, initially, pneumatic solid steel or spoked however, as the war ground-on, steel-rimmed wheels were fitted to save on rubber though both pneumatic and steel-rimmed were in-use 'til war's end.

The cart was also adapted, simply by add-ons, to suit a variety of role, in this instance an Anti-Aircraft mount fitted with an MG42. The Luftwaffe ground defender takes aim having fired a few tracing rounds on his target.

For the model (A DML Cyber-Hobby from years ago), I repainted the whole cart (was dark grey initially) in two-tone camo and weathered. I then scratch-built the wooden decking for the floor of the cart and painted weathered several ammo containers and drums (and the wherewithal of ancillary items) to suit. Spent casings can be seen on the ground. Overall, a nice little add-on to the over-arching 'Achtung Jabo' diorama planned for this year's ScaleACT. Enjoy, Steve

Nice set-up. The repaint of the cart came out great. The weathering effects are very well done. Thanks for sharing.

Re: 'Achtung Jabo!!! - IF8 Infanterie Karren AA Mount

Hey...thanks (loads of) for putting my pics on the thread...much appreciated and, over the past year or so, a real bug-bear of a problem for me which is the reason why I've had to resort to 'third party' hosting from another site entirely.

Out of interest, is this a site admin solution or is there a way I can do this in future???.

Once again, thankyou very much.

Steve

Re: 'Achtung Jabo!!! - IF8 Infanterie Karren AA Mount

So now that you have a pbase account to host your photo's all you have to do is put the file extension .jpg at the end of the url/address of the picture you want to post, then you have the url/address you need to share. Example, this is the address of the pic in the album

www.pbase.com/stevem88/image/167841146

Then you add the .jpg to the end of it

www.pbase.com/stevem88/image/167841146.jpg

You can then use that address to insert the picture in a thread
