Does anyone recognize this "Firefly"
Saw this on eBay and think it's kind of amazing. Does anyone know who built this?

Re: Does anyone recognize this "Firefly"
Dave...that has been listed before. It looks like a modified Plastic Panzer roto model. The turret extension and bustle bin don't look quite right. For comparison, here is one that Andrew from Canada made from the Dragon model. Go down to about the ninth picture:

Re: Does anyone recognize this "Firefly"
I'd seen it listed before, Dick. It feels like a blast from the past. It's just interesting to see something like this nowadays. I expect it was built during the good old days. I was wondering if anyone knew the responsible party. And it makes sense it's a Plasticpanzers or James DeSimone Sherman. But it looks like they chose to go a different way on the running gear with what I think is 21st Century Bradley parts. It's not exactly accurate, but a good deal of effort and thought went in to it. Just a sorta cool toy from simpler times.
And the one you posted the link for is a beauty. An entirely different sort of an animal. The dioramas from the con are terrific. I'd like to try to visit it next time. I miss the shows and the people. |

Re: Does anyone recognize this "Firefly"
From the photos, the Firefly is using 21st Bradley road wheels and suspension. The rear mounted drive sprocket is from the Abrams and so is the track. Wonder if they have the rest of the Abrams road wheels and why it was not finished. Two Abrams motors would provide enough power for a lower speed tank with the additional weight of the Firefly. As stated in an earlier post, looks like a lot of thought went into this conversion.

Re: Does anyone recognize this "Firefly"
In the process of converting a Viper Sherman into a Firefly. Slow process as with all my projects, never have any time.

Re: Does anyone recognize this "Firefly"
That's a great start, Mike. I'm no longer man enough to work on a Viper Sherman. I wince when I think about lugging around the one I had. It was fun enough to put together and paint the hull and turret, but as soon as I added the running gear and had it finished I realized these things give new meaning to "static model". I sold it at a Dragon Expo..

Re: Does anyone recognize this "Firefly"
I hear you, I plan on using East Coast Armory's tutorial to re-enforce the hull to make it easier to lift and move. Also have allot of John"s custom parts to use for the conversion. Just wish I had more time for this and other stuff.

Not enough time Mike? Or just too many projects? Haha.

Re: Does anyone recognize this "Firefly"
YES!
It took me a while to place it but I found the owner's post on Facebook (from May 4th, 2020). From the Facebook group 1/6 War Vehicles only: https://www.facebook.com/groups/4305...10143582500517 The guy doesn't give any detail on his build. He just posted the same photos that are in the auction. It sort of sounds like he built it more recently. Anyway - enjoy that Facebook post above for what it is worth... inxsone - awesome work on your Firefly! - Fred |
