Hi Guys

Decided to put in a couple of extra hours yesterday and today to make up the masters/prototype of the Panther rear bulkhead access covers. My thanks goes to Kent Wiik who supplied me with all the measurements I needed to make these.

The covers will be cast in white metal, bolts will be brass and nuts aluminum. Bolts on the large covers are 6-32 and the small cover 4-40 which are as close to the correct size in 6 scale as I can find. Nuts will be 1/4" and 3/16" across the flats which again is very close to correct scale.

Large cover nuts across flats are 6 mm in 6 scale, 1/4" (.250"). 6 mm = .2362"
Small cover nuts across flats are 5 mm in 6 scale, 3/16" (.1875") 5 mm = .1969"
Plates are 5 mm thick (Real plate was 30 mm) The ones in the pictures are the casting masters.

I have found these scale nuts in standoff/coupler nuts which I will cut to the correct height so they are more realistic. Off the shelf nuts in these sizes, 6-32 and 4-40, do not have the correct outside dimensions. I do not have these in stock at the moment so I made my own 6-32 nuts for the prototype in pictures from 1/4" hex bar and the 4.40 nuts are reversed lock nuts which are 3/16" across the flats. This gives you an idea of how the covers will look with these scaled nuts.

I have drilled the ends of the bolts to fit the cotter pins like the real ones. This feature will be a optional extra as drilling the holes and making the cotter pins is a real pain.

Bolts are 1" long and will require washers on the inside of the rear armor plate so the outside is the correct height. You will need to drill through holes the fit these covers. In the pictures the covers are mounted on 1/2" plastic with two washers on the back side. Did not think to take picture of this.

I am offering this set with three options, just the four plates, three large and one small for those that wish to use their own nuts and bolts, a set of plates with the nuts and bolts and a complete set which will include the cotter pins and holes drilled in bolts.

Pan27A Panther Rear Access Cover Set (Plates only) $35.00
Pan27B Panther Rear Access Cover Set with Nuts and Bolts $50.00
Pan25C Panther Rear Access Cover Set with Nuts, Bolts and Cotter Pins $70.00

Please e-mail me if you are interested in a set as I do not wish to make a multiple casting mold for a few sets. These can be ordered now, delivery in about 4 weeks.

Orders: toyrific@mindspring.com

Regards
Mike
