Hello all...
I was going through some of my archived photos, looking for ideas for different display bases....(I'm trying to find photos of wall/sidewalk/doorway combos that might look nice to display single figures...I f you have any ideas, please contact me...)
Anyway...I came across a couple of them that looked vaguely familiar...I couldn't quite place them..but they had a 'ring of familiarity' to them...
then I made the connection!...
Here are two photos of Carentan...taken from different angles...but clearly showing the same house on the corner, with the same 'signage' mounted between the windows...
and here is the still I captured from 'Band of Brothers' that inspired the signage that I used for my 'Carentan' base...
It's apparent that someone (at least in the 'village' prop/construction design crew) did their homework on this production!

| Good catch! BoB was (and is) awesome, and set the standard for years to come. |

| I agree with you, Hellqvist. It is my all time favorite tv series, mini or otherwise. |

A agree - awesome TV-series.
Only thing I really HATE is the Spielberg way of down toning the colours to make it look more "WWII-like" - everything - uniforms, buildings, plants etc. comes out in almost grey tones.
I'm pretty sure the colours was as strong then as now and people at that time had the same eyes as us and saw the world in the same colours as we do.
Worst thing is that Spielberg also got to ruin Eastwoods Iwo Jima mowies in the same "lets paint it grey"-way.

Are you looking for more Carentan photo's? I visited Carentan a couple of years ago. The building you have pictured was the Desire Ingouf, it was destroyed by US engineers a few days after these photo's were taken. It was in the path of the on coming allied tanks making there way inland. It was a tight corner, and the tanks were having trouble negotiating the turn so they blew it up.
Here is a French modeling companies web site it might give you some ideas. These are 1/35th but good for ideas.

Here is a link to my Normandy photo's. To the left you should see a menu that will take you to other galleries of specific places. The first gallery is the real "T" intersection portrayed in episode 3, Carentan in BoB's. The store on the first floor has been modernized.
The Carentan City center folder also has photo's of the real archway's that were also depicted in the series. The rest are "Airborne" locations that were on my tour. Hope these give you some idea's...
Here are a couple more photo's of the Desire Ingouf

.308, any good photos - period or current of unrestored buildings - would be appreciated. Close-ups are especially helpful.
Thanks! _________________ "It's good to be the King..." |

Great pictures guys. Love the fact that BoB producers took the time to do some research and get it right. I bought this series for my Dad one Christmas and when he passed away my Mom gave it back to me and told me Dad loved to watch this series and thought I should have it.
Luke666, never thought or noticed the "paint it grey thing" but in a way on a subconscious level it does work. Gives me a surreal feeling without really thinking about it. _________________ " If you threaten Finns, they do not become frightened--they become angry. And they never surrender." .308...
Thanks!...
those are GREAT pics...I love that building...(if you remember, the BoB crew ALSO destroyed THEIR version during the filming of the 'Carentan' episode!)
I was able to replicate the 'Periers', 'Cherbourg', and '30 Kilometers an hour' sign just fine...but I would LOVE to have a good shot of that large oval sign above the rest but below the 'painted' banner sign...
If you have any more 'representative' pics of period buildings I'd certainly appreciate seeing them...
As I stated, I'm trying to develop ideas for display bases with an interesting 'backdrop'...
Thanks again,
