• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

Has anyone bought a vehicle from Solo 3D Studio?

Ortona

Marksman
Here's their site:

I had not heard of them before, but they are offering resin 3D printed vehicles ranging from King Tigers down to ammo trailers. They are not cheap, but the sizes and proportions seem correct, even if the smaller details like the MGs and mudguards are kludgy. They are reportedly located in Wales, UK.

They even have several nice looking American vehicles including an M18 Hellcat, and an M8 Greyhound.

They also post on eBay. Here's the Hellcat, for GPB 800/$1052 US (Gasp):

So has anyone seen any of these kits up close?

All you see are Computer Generated Images, there are almost no finished products shown as they're crude, heavy and out of scale etc.
I've seen the U-boat turret and it was really bad, owner not happy with his purchase and contact with seller.

You need to understand also these are solid - nothing moves. Big block of plastic. Which for me is a deal breaker. I'd be vert cautious. I've never seen one in person.

At least one is advertised to move. the 250/8 Neu, see the video in the second picture:

He has a 93.3 rating on 13 sales. His description:

"The Sd.Kfz. 250 (German: Sonderkraftfahrzeug 250; 'special motor vehicle') was a light armoured half-track, very similar in appearance to the larger Hanomag-designed Sd.Kfz. 251 and was used by Nazi Germany in World War II. Most variants were open-topped and had a single access door in the rear.
Features
Accurate scale model
exclusive to solo 3d
Rolling Wheels
Independent tracks
Opening rear door
Rotating main gun
Detailed Interior
Large scale model"

He (they) appear to have quite a few models available. But those images are just CAD models. You can do animation inside CAD program to show things opening and moving. But it looks highly detailed. I would maybe ask on one of the UK forums if anyone has one of these before putting out that kind of money. But cool looking models.

This is maded with the 3D model from Zenislew.I know him.
Zenislew makes 1/32 scale 3D models with details adequate for that scale.
Of course, when you enlarge 1/32 to 1/6, it wont be ideal.

The seller is not even the author of that animation.
https://cults3d.com/en/search?q=zenislew

Obviously, its not possible to find any pictures of the real prints of these designs, because this seller dont do any test prints.
He simply finds someone from whom he licenses a 3D model - scale 1/100 to 1/32.
Then he offers it for sale and the first piece produced goes straight to the customer.

Nothing for me, but there are enough people for whom it is enough.

I will definitely hold off making a decision until I can see an actual production model. Thanks for the warning.

Warprints has a great point. The original models from "zenislew" on Cults are 1/32 scale. So that person on ebay is using the same images (with moving tracks and opening doors) as the original guy on cults. So they took his STL and scaled them up and are selling them as 1/6. Definitely would not buy anything from them. No images or video of the scaled up vehicles - definitely a no buy.

Don't buy from them. I know people who bought items from them and they were utter crap. Poor details and terrible print quality!

I paid a guy in China through ebay for a 1/6 Chaffee and wound up with nothing for my $750.00. Be careful with these guys and ask to see images of a vehicle, - any vehicle - that has been produced and sold.

According a negative eBay review, the model arrived covered in 3D supports and the buyer didn't know how to remove them.

Even then, if Solo 3D Studio ever enlarges Zenislew's Sd.kfz 234/1, my favorite Jerry AFV, then I might bite!

There is 1/10 scale Sd.kfz 234/1 somewhere on the Cults3D.
This is certainly more suitable for upscaling to 1/6.
But if you dont have a printer, you would have to find someone (preferably in your area) to print it for you.

I've just purchased a SOLO 3D American LVT 4 for next year's series on the USMC in the Pacific (Project - Devil Dog) and though I know it'd be static, which suits my needs, I'm just hoping the detail in relief - as depicted on their site - meets the money paid. Will keep everyone posted once it arrives and will take some just out of the box pics before I commence work on it. Cheers, Steve
