My focus is the Marine Corps since I am one and 1/6th gives me an opportunity to kit-bash and recreate the full sized uniforms and 782 gear that I used to collect years ago in another life.
I wanted to create a squared away, professional looking DI from back in the pre-camouflage days when I was a recruit & DI. I decided to do him as we dressed each winter with field jacket and gloves over the old sateen utilities. (No one seems to make sateen OG fatigues/utilities without Army insignia plastered on the chest.) Most Marines at the time, including recruits, wore the issued M-65 field jacket, but I preferred my personal M-51 model since the collar and cuffs without Velcro looked better in garrison. I gave him a Corfam 'foul weather strap' on his campaign hat worn up near the brim per RTR SOP of the time. His duty belt came from the otherwise toy-like SOTW Drill Instructor figure. I'm amazed how some of their items were spot on accurate.
He still needs a nameplate per regs and his metal chevrons on the field jacket collar.
Comments are welcomed.
