• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

The actor Richard Todd died on December 3rd. Probably best know to those of us on these boards for his portrayals of Major John Howard of the Ox & Bucks in "The Longest Day" and Wing Commander Guy Gibson in "Dam Busters" , Mr Todd was an officer in the Paras and dropped on D-Day in support of Howards action on Pegausus Bridge - he even acted out a discussion with himself in the film. A very un self assuming and modest man , he apparently refused many honours offered to him in later life and gave his reason for refusing to play himself in TLD as "I did not do anything special"

Another member of the greatest generation gone

Thanks, Kev. There were more than a few actors that served with distinction in combat.

Nice post. Another case of truth being way more unlikely than fiction.

We owe so much to these guys.

Kev,
Thank you for posting this as I had not heard. I first saw him as Rob Roy and was hooked,I was a fan ever since and have quite a few of his movies.
I am so sorry he is gone. I always hoped to see him on the silver screen again.
God Bless him,
GJ

I takes quite a bit of self-promotion and help from publicity flacks and influence in high places to get the "K". Todd was obviously a self-effacing person who didn't want to trade on his wartime experiences.
