• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

Technician 4th Grade helmet insignia ?

RogueJK

Tanker
Since a WW2 US Army soldier with the rank of Technician 4th Grade (T/4) was effectively equivalent to a Sergeant, but did not officially have the authority to issue commands in most cases, would they have displayed an NCO bar on the back of their helmet?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I've done a little research into this very topic. From what I've found it was done, but not required. From what I've read there really weren't any carved in stone rules about helmet markings. It varied from Division to division. Like you said, the Tech ranks did not have authority to issue commands. But some of them still found themselves in positions where they had to. I've also read that the Tech ranks caused a lot of confusion and frustration. Prior to their creation ( I think about 1942) there existed a group of pay rates called First and... For example First and 5Th, was a PFC who received Cpl pay for the specialist job he did such as mechanic or Cook or Baker. He became a T5 when the new ranks were introduced. Where some real confusion came in was in instances where let's say a Cpl receives a "promotion" to T4, more pay, but suddenly less authority. From what I've read this happened and caused a lot of consternation.
Hope that helps a little.

Tim
