Mike Stannard - Rest Well

Re: Mike Stannard

With a heavy heart, I have to write that Mike has passed away several weeks ago from his illness. I was recently contacted and notified this information by an associate of his. I'm surprised that news of his passing has not trickled it's way to the 1/6 newsgroups, being that Mike was a prominent personality in the 1/6 industry. From what I was told there are no plans to continue business and his shop is currently locked down as the rent is past due.

I would just like to add that... Mike was a giant in the hobby, a very helpful and pleasurable person to communicate with, and who's eye for detail reflected in his offering which were / are second to none. He has left some big shoes to fill, and all of us in the hobby owe him thanks for the work he was able to contribute through the years. He will be sourly missed by all who have met or ever associated with him. My thoughts go out to his wife and family. May he rest in Peace...farewell.

I am speechless. Much of my hobby depended on his fantastic parts. A terrible loss for the hobby and for me. He was a great guy ! Rest in peace Mike. You are going to be missed and totally irreplaceable. Peace to his family. Goodbye Mike. A really sad day.

Does anyone have the obit?

Mods need to pin this in memorial. He did us good .

Mike truely was a gentleman. I'll never forget when he lost everything to a fire and still managed to fullfill orders, despite having to start all over.

Right now from what I can tell , your out your money and no parts will be sent to you , sorry , think about if you died today and what outstanding business will not be finished in your life , Mike did not know he was going to die and leave you without your toys or money , if its that important you can probably file a claim against Mikes Estate for your money , but will probably cost more in legal fees then its worth .

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

This is sad news, Mike was a real gentleman and a true Master Craftsman.
This hobby has lost a true One Sixth Icon.
He will be greatly missed.

I just was talking with a friend this last Friday about Mikes work and wanting to sell his business and my friend was interested in possibly buying it and had asked me to contact Mike about it.

It's a shame to see Mike's work and efforts disappear.

You will be sorely missed my friend.

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

This is another big blow to the 1/6th hobby following the death of the UK Tank Club founder, Stuart Humphreys last month.

So sorry to hear of Mike's passing, over the years I've had many excellent parts from Mike and always enjoyed adding them to my models. Feel for all his family at this very sad time.

RIP Mike.

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

I saw this coming for awhile. As he was trying so hard to hold it together and get all outstanding orders shipped, I could feel the desperation in his posts. If you read between the lines of his posts for the last few years, he was on-again-off-again about his business, and he took more time off than seemed normal at several junctures.

I think he spent the last few years just trying to cope with his problem and maintaining his business until he got all the orders filled and shipped. Without a lot of specifics about what he was going through, he dropped hints about his issues. But fate stepped in and stopped him. I admire his tenacity for forging ahead and trying to fulfill his outstanding orders as best he could during an unimaginably tough time in what was to be the last chapter of his life. An honest, talented craftsman that brought much joy into the lives of everyone he touched.

"He will be missed" doesn't quite cover it. But it is true. He will be missed for sure.

I've known Mike for a very long time and talked to him just before he passed away. He tried to fight the cancer, but that's one disease that's hard to beat. He'll be missed by lots of folks, but his pain and suffering in this world are now gone.

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

Sad times. My sincerest good wishes for Mike's family in this difficult time. I had only limited contact with Mike, just business stuff, but it was certainly positive. He was a talented craftsmen and an honorable businessman. All my dealings with him were positive and in our little 1/6th world that isn't always the case. I had no idea he had been a career soldier in Britain before beginning his 1/6th life in the US. He apparently had quite a career in what can safely be called "interesting" times. I'm sure he has a comfortable patch waiting in Fiddlers Green. R.I.P. Mike.

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

Very sad news to hear. Mike's parts have been a major part of most of my vehicle projects in the past and will continue to be part of many future builds.
He will be sorely missed and close to irreplaceable in the 1/6 world.
As mentioned above, I'm not completely surprised, as his emails and posts over the last couple of years showed how his health issues were a major obstacle in his business and in his ability to continue in his business.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.
Rest in peace Mike.

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

Very sad news, but not unexpected as Sourdoh noted.

I remember talking to him before the Las Vegas show and he was worried that not enough vendors, friends and visitors would show up. He was very relieved and happy to see so many vendors, although since it was the first show in Henderson, there was a lack of visitors.

He told me that he was glad so many came, and worried that those who traveled a great distance, such as Cory from the east coast, and Dave Dibbs all the way from England, might be dissapointed with the sales. But we all had a great time meeting, catching up and just discussing 1/6th modeling.

He had a photo taken of all of us on the front steps of the show hall. Does anyone have a copy that could be posted?

So sorry to hear of Mike's passing! It's too bad so many of us have to go at an early age. Mike loved the hobby and it seems to me even in his last little bit of time here he was thinking of the buddies/customers he made in the hobby. This will leave a big hole in the hobby and the loss of a great online friend. RIP Mike!

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

So sad to lose someone in this group. I admired his work at the Las Vegas show. It was top rate.
Prayers for his family.

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

I am so sorry to hear about this sad news.
I have only met Mike in cyber space as a customer of 6th Scale Icons.

He was always fair and prompt in all our business dealings.

RIP bro.

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

A message from Mikes Brother in Law :

Quote:
To all friends
It was a deep personal regret that you had to hear from Michael J. Stannard’s passing away from someone else and not from us. Please understand and believe that it was out of our control. We are unable to log into his emails, website and so forth but we finally made contact with Steve Hoeger who has been kind enough to help us. As you all know that Mike was struggling with leukemia since 12/2013. The DRs had informed him on 7/8/14 that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer also. He was placed on hospice that same week but passed on that Saturday. He had wished to be cremated and that was granted. We grieve his death but cherish his memories and find comfort in knowing that he was loved by all his friends. Thank you from the family for the condolences as they are so much appreciated and needed. We are only able to read all these comments and it brings us peace.
We saw Mike work with such pride and he was so happy doing this kind of work. I recall going with him to the shop and he just couldn’t wait to start. He was a workaholic and so to us it was hard to see him weak and sick and unable to work. He would still try and go to the shop but it was so impossible sometimes. We just want to inform you that 6th Scale Icons is not shut down. We want to assure you that it is still open. We thank you for your support, Ray .

Very relived to hear that their father's one sixth scale icons is not shut down 'cos there is loads of products that I'd like to buy from their dad's OSSI.

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

I am so happy to hear that Sixth Scale Icons will remain open. It is a fitting legacy for Mike. Someone that great shouldn't be forgotten. His accuracy made our hobby even better. Still hard to believe. HE is a true 1/6er.

Re: Mike Stannard - Rest Well

As I looked through the old drive of the "late" Mike Stannard, creator of 6th Scale Icons, I thought it would be a good idea to post some of the pictures from the life of this creative and productive artist - with his own comments...

Likewise.

Got the renewal notice on the OSF website last month and had to think twice about renewing. Brought up good memories of all the fun Mike and I had with the site and the show. He really work his butt off putting it together.
