How was insignia attached to US helmets?
Just curious as to how the senior officers insignia were added to their helmets. Were they glued on or holes drilled through the steel shell and insignia attached? Referring to the real life not scale helmets

Most often, it was just painted on using a stencil. Less commonly, an actual metal rank insignia was welded onto the front.

I think it would be a real dumb idea putting your rank on the helmet.... would be like saying here I am shoot me. Snipers would love these targets

Re: How was insignia attached to US helmets?
Regulation stated that officers in combat situations should wear no insignia of rank on their uniforms at all. Staff personnel who were visiting forward positions were instructed to cover or remove officer insignia. Of course, the Germans learned to look at any group and pick out the youngest looking guy who was cleaner than the rest, and shoot him. I'm sure it worked out OK most of the time.
